LightSand and Opvista announce intelligent FC and FICON WAN extension over any distance for the cable industryPLANO, TX, June 21, 2006. LightSand® Communications, Inc., a company pioneering SAN Connectivity solutions, and OpVista, Inc., the company delivering Next Generation intelligent optical networks for the deployment of “anything-on-demand” services, announced today that they have signed an agreement to provide joint solutions. Under the agreement, Opvista will be able to provide LightSand unique SAN Extension solutions, as part of its optical transport solution, in North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. LightSand is a global leader in the development and delivery of SAN connectivity products that can be used to interconnect multiple SANs regardless of physical proximity or vendor disparity, and enable companies to implement mission critical applications. LightSand delivers outstanding WAN performance which allows companies to deploy state-of-the art connectivity solutions for Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery applications, while fully optimizing the connection cost on their WAN. The OpVista Intelligent Transport™ solution includes its patented Ultra-DWDM technology allowing single wavelength upgrades and scalable reconfigurability with the S-ROADM. OpVista’s S-ROADM is based on a broadcast and select architecture providing "point and click" reconfigurability, and a switched ring architecture accommodating "any-to-any" traffic patterns with full protection switching. The OpVista solution provides this capability at a significantly reduced cost compared with conventional systems and can economically scale from a single wavelength to dropping all the wavelengths without disrupting existing traffic.
