LightSand SAN extension solution chosen by Phoenix Technologies to deploy critical data recovery site up to 400 milesPLANO, TX, April 13, 2006. LightSand® Communications, Inc., a company pioneering SAN Connectivity solutions, announced today that it is providing Phoenix Technologies with highly effective distant connectivity solutions for its critical data replication architecture. Phoenix Technologies, a global market leader in device-defining software, is implementing its Business Continuity Plan to significantly reduce down time in case of a major failure or disaster. To achieve this objective, the company chose to deploy a hardware-based remote backup solution, using the LightSand’s i-8100B SAN extension gateways as the core of its extension infrastructure, in order to ensure the highest level of data replication capabilities over very long distances. In the first stage of the Business Continuity Plan, the financial information and e-mail exchange database are already being replicated to a recovery site, located 40 miles from the primary datacenter. In its second phase, the LightSand i-8100B units will enable Phoenix Technologies to move its recovery site to a distance of 300 to 400 miles. “This is yet another example of LightSand technology facilitating the implementation of an enterprise class Business Continuity Plan running over long distances, said Richard Czech, CEO of LightSand. In this case, our ability to deliver highly effective data compression of FC and cluster traffics over a single IP link, and reduce downtime in case of disaster or failure, was the key differentiator, and we are very proud that Phoenix chose our solutions.” The LightSand’s i-8100B SAN extension gateways provide the most effective solution for low bandwidth inter-site links by embedding highly effective data compression algorithm designed by HIFN, the market-leader for compression technology. The average compression ratio of 5:1 allows replicating significantly more data, resulting in less downtime, in the event when recovery is required. The LightSand i-8100B gateway used in this deployment provides cluster-, IP-, and Fibre Channel connectivity. In addition to FC SAN connectivity, LightSand 8100 family switches support network connectivity for both Layer 2 Ethernet, including non-IP Cluster traffic, and Layer 3 IP traffic over the same physical wide area interconnect.
